10 Metre Air Rifle Training in Bhopal — Technique, Equipment & Competition
The 10 metre air rifle event is one of the most widely contested disciplines in Olympic and ISSF shooting sports. It is the primary entry discipline for most competitive shooters in India — and the one we focus on most intensively at Shooter's Headquarter, Bhopal.
What Is 10 Metre Air Rifle Shooting?
The shooter stands at a distance of 10 metres from the target and fires a .177 calibre (4.5mm) pellet from a precision air rifle. The target's bullseye is just 0.5mm in diameter — smaller than a pencil tip. At the highest level, top shooters score 10.9 out of 10.9 on individual shots, with total scores above 630 out of 640 in 60-shot finals.
The discipline demands extraordinary mental concentration, physical stillness, and technical precision — which is exactly why it is one of the best sports for developing discipline, focus, and mental resilience.
The Three Pillars of 10M Air Rifle Technique
- Position (Natural Point of Aim): Your body must be naturally aligned with the target without muscular effort. A correct position means the rifle points at the bullseye when all muscles are relaxed. This takes weeks of guided training to establish correctly.
- Breathing Control: Competitive shooters fire within a specific window of their breathing cycle. Learning to identify and use this window consistently is a fundamental early skill at SHQ.
- Trigger Technique: The trigger must be pressed — never pulled — smoothly and without disturbing the aim. The subconscious release (surprise break) is the gold standard that elite shooters train for years to master.
Equipment Used in 10M Air Rifle at SHQ Bhopal
At Shooter's Headquarter, we train with ISSF-compliant equipment throughout. Our academy weapons include Olympic-grade air rifles with fully adjustable stocks and precision sights. Electronic Scoring Targets (EST) provide instant feedback on every shot — showing not just score but shot location, which accelerates learning significantly.
Our SCATT training system goes even further — it tracks the entire movement of the rifle during the aiming and firing phase, giving both coach and athlete detailed data on exactly what's happening before, during, and after the shot. No other training tool provides this level of insight.
